Completing My 2020 Virtual Grand Rapids Half Marathon

To be honest, this morning didn’t feel like marathon day. It pretty much felt like any other morning I get up while it’s still dark, and everyone else is asleep, to go for a run.

This year has been a challenging one for running, and races, that is for sure. Most races were cancelled, postponed, or changed to virtual. My training has been all on my own, and when the pandemic hit I stopped sharing all of my runs on social media. Life wasn’t “business as usual” and I really couldn’t maintain a facade like it was. I did commit to running my 2020 Grand Rapids Half Marathon as a virtual run despite the offer to defer to next year.

This morning I put my race jersey on, pinned my bib, but there will wasn’t the excitement and anticipation there that normally comes on race day. I finished, I met my $1000 fundraising goal for more wells in Africa, and I hung up my bib and finishers medal. I’m hopeful that I’ll find my joy in running again, and find myself once again among the hustle and bustle of race day.

Not Quite A 5K, But A PR Nonetheless

After an 11 mile Tuesday run today seemed like it was barely worth getting out of bed for, but it is a necessary part of the training plan in order for it to be adjusted for how I’m actually doing. No worries about the lack of distance today as I believe I’m set to do…

    Kicking Off The Week Strong

My training plan slowed my pace down this week. I suspect since my last Thursday evaluation run involved some pretty icy sidewalks that it affected the outcome of my training plan. I felt really good even after taking this past Saturday off. It’s definitely been harder staying with it since I’m pretty disconnected from my…

    Kicking Things Up A Notch

Today my training run was kicked up a notch with some interval speed work. It definitely tested how recovered I am from the marathon. It’s been awhile since I have done any high intensity runs of substantial length. These sorts of runs do make it hard to spend a lot of time focusing on prayer…

    Finishing Another Hot Cider Hustle

It was cold, wet, windy, and snowy for the #HotCiderHustle this morning, but it was fun to see a few #HWI teammates out on a Saturday morning. I didn’t bring home any medal but I still felt really good about my run given the ground conditions. I made sure to wear my pullover cleats which…

Back At It After A Long Weekend Break

It was a little bit of a struggle starting out this morning after having a long weekend of no running. Felt better by the end of my run. Through one of the worship songs this morning I was prompted to pray specifically for the father’s of Sierra Leone. There are many women and children that…
